ENERGY and FLY

The ENERGY and FLY programs serve 172 students in grades 1-8. Both programs meet five days per week and focus on improving students’ ability to read, write, and speak English, while also providing homework help and additional enrichment activities such as art and music.

Three days per week, ENERGY's elementary school students work with a volunteer mentor one-on-one or in pairs, while FLY's middle school students work in small groups with a mentor reading longer chapter books. On the other two days, students go on field trips; engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) activities; and participate in Peer Support Groups.

These programs weave together to create a meaningful support network which augments students’ social emotional growth, community engagement, and cross-cultural understanding. The tandem development of academic and soft skills helps students feel empowered to achieve English language acquisition and academic parity with their peers.
