WHO WE ARE
Imagine a community where all children have the equal opportunity to learn, where anyone can start a business if they have the initiative, and where communities have thriving business districts that provide unique and innovative products and services. This is the vision of WEDI. The mission of WEDI is to strengthen communities through a continuum of educational and financial resources, removing systemic barriers to economic equity for all Western New Yorkers. The Westminster
Presbyterian Church founded WEDI in 2006 to improve the quality of life for the residents of Buffalo’s West Side. In 2015, WEDI expanded its activity to the City of Buffalo. WEDI reduces barriers to success and opportunity through economic development, community building, and education.
WHAT WE DO
Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) is a non-profit organization that reduces barriers to success and opportunity through economic development, community building, and education. WEDI maintains three guiding principles for what it wants to achieve: (1) low-income individuals and families attain sustainable incomes through business creation and expansion; (2) communities of entrepreneurs create focused, market-driven, and sustainable destinations that bring people together to create strong, diverse neighborhoods; and (3) English-language learners acquire comprehension and fluency to attain parity with native English-speaking peers, which in turn promotes high graduation rates, family health, and a strong community.
